Exacerbations: I've experienced two since the original diagnosis of MS, March
8th, 2007.
An exacerbation can also be called a relapse and it means when new MS symptoms
appear.
The first exacerbation started July 27th, 2007 with my upper left thigh being
numb and the numbness has not subsided. Approximately the first week of
October my lower left extremities except for my foot started to feel numb.

Remission: (When symptoms subside), began for me on or about
11/13/2007 after taking faithfully two prescriptions given by a doctor.
The first Rx being Prednisone and the other Low Dose Naltrexone (3mg.)

Even while not experiencing any symptoms I believe MS is still doing
damage to our Central Nervous System (CNS),
which consists of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves.
The CNS is in charge of our sensory center (brain) which dictates to our
muscles including eye muscles, limbs, and spine.

Think of our nerves as wires with a protective covering of insulation.
Well the insulation is in actuality called the Myelin
Sheath. Damaged cells of the immune system attack the Myelin causing
inflammation, interfere with communication of the nerves by exposing
them and causing permanent damage.

Within a three week period my contact lens Rx (for the left eye)
had gone from 1.25 to 2.25.
Thank God the optic nerve was not damaged however I was told by an
excellent optometrist some muscles in my eye hardened.

So remember nerve damage can effect eyesight, and oh yes
Cognitive Dysfunction:  for me so far by the grace of God it has been
mild, what I've noticed are deficits of my intellectual functioning by way
of my memory, the way I absorb new information, and view concepts are
somewhat slower

I am now on Copaxone therapy and it seems to be working no relapse
since March 2009.
